Free Plants By Mail ~ Saving the Planet One Plant at a Time!

I found "Free Plants By Mail" on Twitter and thought it was well worth sharing with my butterfly gardening friends.

Free Plants by Mail was started by local growers to help find a solution to the plants that were grown for nurseries but never purchased. Their collection of farmers grow hundreds of thousands of plants each month and there are always seasonal extras that would otherwise go to waste.

Each month Free Plants By Mail will try to release a new plant that they will send out for free! All they ask for is ask is that you pay a small shipping and handling charge.

They donated to The Nature Conservancy, a leading conservation organization that has been working to preserve our planet and its wilderness places. Their mission statement is “to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.”

I think it's a great way for us gardeners to share, experiment and explore new plants for our butterfly gardens.

Butterfly Field Trip - Caspers Regional Wilderness Park

NABA Orange County's Butterfly Field Trip to Caspers Regional Wilderness Park, Orange County - Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Anyone interested in learning more about our local native butterflies is invited to join.

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Caspers Park in the parking area just inside entrance Kiosk. Day parking fee required. We will walk 2-3 miles along the trail overlooking San Juan Creek from 9:00 am. to 12:30 a.m. After the hike, we will have lunch at Nature Center and observe the butterflies within the Butterfly Gardens around the Nature Center.

North American Butterfly Association Meeting (Orange County Chapter)

Anyone interested in learning more about butterflies, butterfly gardening and all things related to butterflies?
Please join us at the Orange County Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association meeting this Thursday, Oct 22, 2009 at 7:00 pm. Meetings are help at the Irvine Ranch Water District offices at 15600 Sand Canyon in Irvine at 7:00 pm.

The meetings are open to anyone and everyone interested in butterflies! I will bring cookies!
